How to be a great runner: Paola Dominique

Screen and Film School were delighted to welcome Paola Dominique, Screen and Film School graduate, to our Brighton campus. Paola hosted an engaging masterclass for our students discussing her experiences working in production, getting roles in the industry, and the ‘do’s’ and ‘don’t’s’ of being a runner.

We’re very proud of her achievements so far, from being an Office Runner at Ricochet after graduating, to Production Secretary for HBO in Wales in recent months.

Paola offered a fantastic insight into the mechanics and hierarchy of being a runner, including her top tips for making good first impressions, self-care for long hours on set, dressing for the role you want, and becoming an indispensable part of the crew. There truly is much more to being a runner than making tea! The role can vary hugely depending on the company you’re working for and the field you’d like to work in, including:

  • Lock Off PA
  • Location Assistant
  • Production Runner
  • Post-production Runner
  • Floor Runner

Paola’s Masterclass really shone a light on the importance of being a great runner, and everyone who attended will agree that it was an incredibly useful session!
