A taste of Birmingham

25th November 2020

Birmingham Applicant Experience Manager and homegrown Brummie Lucy Carey shares her hidden gems of the second city.

When you choose to study in Birmingham, you will insert yourself as part of a diverse international community in a vibrant and fresh city, nestled in the heart of the UK. Less than two hours from London lies the modern and exciting city that is Birmingham. With easy access to the picturesque English countryside, Birmingham offers everything you desire from a capital city.

But we don’t just want to tell you this, we want to show you!

Did you know?

Birmingham is the youngest city in Europe, with under 25’s accounting for nearly 40% of it’s population. And, with over 8,000 acres of parks and open spaces, Birmingham is one of the greenest cities in the UK.

Birmingham’s lively music scene has something for everyone. A personal favourite is The Jam House, inspired by Jules Holland and overflowing with live Jazz, Northern Soul, and Motown Classics.

Additionally, Birmingham’s culinary landscape is second to none, from Burgers and Balti’s you’ll find your tastebuds exploring food from all corners of the globe. You must check out Digbeth Dining Club embedded in the Old Custard Factory (now a creative hub) which allows you to try incredible tastes from different vendors every week.

Similar to New York, Birmingham doesn’t sleep. In addition to its bar and clubs, you’ll find some hidden gems in the city. If you fancy yourself a bit of Olympian check out The Floodgate for some indoor curling! Try your hand at tabletop golf or take on the rapid batting cage. The cocktails are pretty good too!

So, whether it’s Peaky Blinders, The Bullring, Cadbury World, or the Balti, Birmingham is a hub of pioneering which tends itself into shopping, food & drink, nightlife, film culture, and industry. Without a doubt, the second city is an amazing place to study.
