Masterclass: Jamie Patterson

15 April, 2019

Screen and Film School was pleased to host a recent masterclass with feature film director Jamie Patterson, who screened his newly released film ‘Caught’ and led on a Q&A with our Filmmaking students

Jamie is a prolific filmmaker and a Screen and Film School graduate. Having written and directed his first feature film when he was 21 years old, Jamie now has 12 feature films to his belt and co-owns Brighton-based production company Jump Start Productions. In 2017 he wrote and directed Tucked, a British drama set in the world of drag queens. The film premiered at Outfest Film Festival 2018 in Los Angeles, where it won the ‘Audience Award’ and ‘Best International Narrative’. The film was picked up by Gravitas Ventures and was released in early 2019.

Jamie directed sci-fi thriller ‘Caught’, which premiered at Portugal’s renowned Fantasporto Film Festival, receiving the ‘Critics Choice’ award. His earlier work includes 2017’s Fractured, which won a record-breaking six awards, including ‘Best Director’, at the British Horror Film Festival, and City of Dreamers, winner of ‘Best Film’ at the Madrid International Film Festival.

Jump Start Productions is one of Screen and Film School’s industry partners and offers a 6-week internship for a second year filmmaking student. Jamie strives to promote home-grown talent and will always stay true to his roots in the city of Brighton. Second-year student Jackie Du Bled was the first Screen and Film School intern for Jump Start Productions and was involved in the feature film Caught. Jamie said: “Our intern Jackie was absolutely WONDERFUL on the shoot! She worked so, so, so hard!”

Screen and Film School had the privilege of welcoming Jamie Patterson and actor Ruben Crow to screen ‘Caught’ and have a Q&A with the film school students.
