What you can expect from a Screen and Film School Open Day

29th September 2021

Throughout the year all our film schools hold a number of Open Days so you can see for yourself what life as a student at Screen and Film School is really like.

We offer separate Open Days for our Diploma as well as our Undergraduate courses, some of which can be accessed virtually, for those who are unable to travel. All of the need-to-know information about which option may be best suited to you is on our website.

You’ll get to attend workshops with our lecturers and graduates, chat with current students, learn more about our courses and ask our career teams about how studying at Screen and Film School can help you forge a career in the industry.

100% of visitors said their Open Day experience was excellent or good and 98% would apply to Screen and Film School after attending an Open Day.

In the meantime, here is a taste of what you can expect if you attend one in Birmingham, Brighton and Manchester.

Who We Are

This is our opportunity to share our vision with you and to introduce you to everything we have to offer. Our ethos, values and methods are common across all of our 3 schools, so when attending an Open Day in Birmingham, Brighton or Manchester you can expect to hear about the following areas: a brief rundown of where you can study and what you can study, further information on our courses and a taste of our many industry partners.

We may also namedrop when discussing our previous Masterclass guests (think Game of Thrones, think Marvel films), our world-renowned college Patrons and our roster of highly successful graduates.

Meet Your Lecturers

You will have the chance to meet and chat with one of our lecturers at an Open Day. They are all experts in their field and are in touch with the film industry as it exists today. As well as this, other Screen and Film School staff members will outline further important details regarding the application process, your chosen city and student accommodation options too.

Hands On Workshops

This may be your very first opportunity to experience up-close the array of professional, high-quality kit we use at all of our schools. This could include demonstrations of industry-ready equipment such as modern LED-light fixtures, as well as using top-notch brands such as RED Raven, Arri Alexa, Sony FS7 and Canon C300, and a selection of modern mirrorless DSLRs.

It may also help to decide which disciplines you would like to pursue the most; can you see yourself as a director, cinematographer, sound mixer or lighting expert? At the heart of the film schools are fully working production-standard sets with lighting rigs and flats and you will take part in a concise, clear workshop during an Open Day which should help whet the appetite for what would become a regular occurrence should you chose to study with us.

Hear from Our Students

There is no better way to discover precisely what studying at Screen and Film School is like than to hear about it from people who have been there and done it. In Brighton – our flagship campus – we invite postgraduates to our Open Days to share memories, tips, and insider advice. In our brand-new Birmingham and Manchester schools, you may hear from an existing student about why they chose to study with us, how the application process shaped up and how their course is progressing so far. This is an invaluable way of getting the perspective of one of your peers, rather than that of a lecturer or staff member.

Take the Grand Tour

You could be considering joining us in Birmingham, Brighton or Manchester; one of the things they all have in common is the facilities and buildings they occupy are of the very highest caliber and are full of the best equipment, teaching assets and places to interact and feel at home. You will have the chance to explore them and envisage the exact places you could make your first student film or meet your first university friendship group.

Explore the City

Moving away from the classrooms, lecture stand and cameras, we will give you ample time to take a breath and walk the streets of what could become your new home city. We are extremely fortunate at Screen and Film School that we are located in the heart of 3 of the most attractive, dynamic cities anywhere in the UK. Birmingham is on the rise and located in the very center of the country, Brighton is a creative, seaside paradise and Manchester is a northern powerhouse of style, colour and expression.

All of that and more: our Open Days are jam-packed full of information, interaction and with a bit of luck, inspiration too. You will have the time to absorb and then take away everything we think you need to know in order to make those hugely important decisions about your future.

If this sounds like something you’re ready to experience, then please explore our upcoming Open Days and sign up today.
