English Language Requirements

Screen and Film School requires that your English Language capability is of a level that will enable you to succeed on your chosen course of study.

All applicants are required to demonstrate their ability to understand and express themselves in both written and spoken English. We accept a wide range of country-specific English language qualifications, please see your country on our International Entry Requirements page. We also accept a number of English language tests based on the following minimum standards.


Undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes

International Baccalaureate  Standard Level in English A at a minimum of Grade 4 or Higher Level in English B at Grade 4  Same as undergraduate with evidence of continued use of English 
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic version 

*We may be able to accept IELTS Indicators taken from 1st July 2020 onwards  

Min. 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in each element: Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing  Min 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each element: Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing overall 
TOEFL (iBT) 

*We do not accept TOEFL ITP tests available in China 

Min. 72 overall with 18 in Reading, 17 in Writing, 17 in Listening and 20 in Speaking  Min. 83 overall with 19 in Reading, 24 in Writing, 20 in Listening and 20 in Speaking 
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)  Min. 50 overall with no less than 42 in each element  Min. 58 overall with no less than 50 in each element 
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)  170 overall with 165 in each component  170 overall with 165 in each component
