Screen and Film School announces Easter Series 2024

Screen and Film School is delighted to announce our highly anticipated Easter Series, back for the fourth consecutive year due to popular demand!

Commencing on April 2nd, the Easter Series features immersive virtual workshops that delve into the realms of film, music, and games. The workshops are led by our industry lecturers, who have established highly successful careers in the creative industries, aiming to share their knowledge and passion with the upcoming generation of creatives at BIMM University.

From budding filmmakers seeking to master the art of screenwriting to aspiring game designers looking to delve into the intricacies of sound design, the Easter Series caters to an array of interests and aspirations.

Easter Series Workshop Schedule

Do you want to be a screenwriter? Tuesday 2nd April, 10am – 12pm

Dive into storytelling and screenwriting with Screen and Film School Birmingham lecturer Sarah Drew. Sarah’s credits include her WW1 biopic Across the Line which has been optioned by Cannibal Films and started shooting in 2022.

Sarah will talk you through conventional narrative structure, how to write better scenes, and how to add subtext to your script. You’ll come away with everything you need to get your script shoot ready!

Sound Design for Video Games: Tuesday 2nd April, 2pm – 4pm

From shattering glass to epic explosions, discover how the sounds are created for your favourite video games. Our experts will show you how sounds are recorded, mixed, and edited to create some of the game industry’s most iconic sounds.

See the sounds created, and added to real game footage and pick up some tips and tricks you can try at home.

Do you want to be a games designer? Wednesday 3rd April, 10am – 12pm

Understand what goes into designing game levels and open worlds with Dean of Creative Technology, Nick Rodriguez. We’ll explore the process of environment design and how to tell stories through space and architecture, as well as how colour, lighting and props can add to your narrative.

This is a great way of understanding how your favourite game levels are created and will serve to build your understanding when creating your own portfolio pieces, or even your next Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

An Introduction to Cinematography: Thursday 4th April, 10am – 12pm

Find out what a Cinematographer does in this bite-size workshop with Adam Collins. Explore the roles of different crew members within the Cinematography department and look at ways Camera, Grip and Lighting can all be used to tell a story.

This is a great skill to learn early on, to help spark your imagination and set your scenes for future projects. Adam is an experienced Cinematographer and Cinematography lecturer here at Screen and Film School Brighton.
