Screen and Film School Birmingham’s inaugural academic year in Digbeth is now well underway and we are all delighted to be able to mark the beginning of 2022 with this news. Having such talented industry specialists as Big Narstie, Adil and Antonio as our Patrons will prove invaluable to our filmmaking students as they progress.

Big Narstie, whose real name is Tyrone Lindo, has had a versatile career: as well as being a successful television presenter, he is also an MC, author, rapper, singer, songwriter, and comedian.

Moreover, he will be joined by his partners from Dice Productions, Kevin Adudike and Nathan Brown as Industry Partners to Screen and Film School Birmingham. This powerhouse trio will provide our students with insights into the inner world of television production. Dice Productions is an independent and award-winning media company, and Big Narstie, Kevin and Nathan are keen to share their knowledge and experiences with our students. They will be on hand to give the lowdown on how their successful business works and what they look for in people when expanding their team.

In addition to this, they will conduct interactive Q&A sessions and provide project briefs which will be tailored to help our students respond to challenges they are likely to face when they enter the industry. Crucially for our students, the Dice team are also keen to offer placements to students looking for work experience in their second year.

Big Narstie’s musical background will also be explored when we invite students from BIMM Birmingham for some interactive sessions with us, which we hope to do in the near future.

Here’s what Big Narstie had to say about the announcement:

“I’m incredibly excited to be a Screen and Film School Birmingham Patron. Birmingham has a rich cultural scene that is often overlooked. There are similarities with London’s industrial urban landscape, and the city also has an exciting, burgeoning grime scene that I love. I am looking forward to inspiring the next generation of storytellers. I may even need a video producing!”

Sharing Big Narstie’s excitement was College Principal Hannah Stevenson, who said: “After chatting with the Dice team about this opportunity, I am delighted to welcome them to the Screen and Film School family. Dice share our vision in terms of bringing genuine added value to our students through live industry briefs and the development of longer-term creative connections. Their values of inclusivity and opportunities for all students echo our own, and we look forward to an exciting and enriching collaboration with them over the coming years.”

This wonderful news for everyone who is associated with the Film School will be the first of many Big Narstie related announcements, and we look forward to planning lots of unmissable events for our students and sharing the details of them in the near future.
