Screen and Film School Manchester announce new building

3 March, 2021

Screen and Film School are thrilled to officially announce the home for Manchester students: Riverside Studios.

Riverside Studios will be the go-to film school in the North for those who want to pursue a career in the film, television, and screen industries. Situated on the doorstep of one of the city’s most vibrant destinations, the building is a stone’s throw away from vital industry connections such as Manchester Studios, ABC, and The Factory. Within easy reach of Space Studios and Media City, and sitting amidst a bustling, creative atmosphere, Screen and Film School Manchester students will feel like they are stepping straight into the industry from day one of their undergraduate degree course, and not simply learning about it from a distance.

Students will be provided with the professional standard facilities to both work and study in, whilst also providing impressive client facing facilities to audition and bring in talent on their productions.

The building is over 13,000sqft and will house two production studios. Studio 1 is a 1500sqft bespoke drama film set enabling students to familiarise themselves with set etiquette, chains of command, multi-camera film directing and all that it takes to succeed in high-end film and TV. Studio 2 includes a green screen infinity cove for music promos, live tv, and attached facilities including gallery, green room, make-up, and guest waiting area.

Riverside Studios will also house fully spec’d edit suites equipped with industry standard software such as Avid, Adobe Suite, DaVinci Resolve studio and Final Cut X, two mac rooms and a screening room. There will also be several open spaces including a learning resource area with a circular glazed library overlooking the river housing bespoke edit suites, student lounges and multiple meeting rooms for production meetings.

The building was previously home to the headquarters of The Farm Group– one of the world’s leading providers of post-production services that have recently worked on projects such as It’s A Sin, Gentlemen Jack, The Last Tango in Halifax, All Creatures Great and Small, and Naked Attraction.

Screen and Film School Manchester’s College Principal, David Thompson said: “It’s so exciting that our specialised Film School opens its doors right next to where it all began in Manchester – old Granada studios; an area now buzzing with indie start-ups, cinemas, art centres and theatres – a place reborn for the modern age.”

“And whilst being in an exciting contemporary metropolitan environment we will be riverside and surrounded by media and entertainments, creating an atmosphere of being in the vibrant centre of it all whilst feeling spacious and accessible. We’re proud to be attached to that heritage reborn as a contemporary new ‘Enterprise City’ and give the modern-day student the opportunities they deserve in a competitive marketplace.”

We cannot wait to welcome our 2021 students to Riverside Studios this September and help them kickstart their careers in filmmaking in one of the most creative and vibrant cities in the UK.

“The central location, production house feel, real connection to industry, and the exciting and dynamic combination that brings, makes for an exhilarating mix for students.” – David Thompson: Screen and Film School Manchester’s College Principal
