Screen and Film School Manchester Film Club
Screen and Film School Manchester 2021 students kicked off the first of their monthly virtual Film Club sessions on 18th September.
Designed as a way to keep the 2021 students in contact whilst they await the opening of Screen and Film School Manchester, the Film Club serves as a great excuse to catch up once a month, engage in some amazing films, discuss central themes and filmmaking techniques, and share ideas.
The film choices each month are voted for by the students, and September’s choice was the incredible Parasite, directed by Bong Joon-ho. “Great films inspire great conversation and ‘Parasite’, our first film club choice, was no exception,” said David Thompson, Manchester College Principal. “I was so impressed by the insight and thoughtfulness students showed. Filmmaking is a team sport where you are dealing with many differing opinions at once, our Film Club gives the opportunity to experience those opinions and voice your own, showing there is no right or wrong, just being clear about the way you see things.”

For next month the students have chosen ‘A Hidden Life’ directed by Terrence Malick. The German-American historical drama depicts the life of Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian farmer and devout Catholic who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. Running at 3 hours long and critically acclaimed for its visual storytelling we’re sure the film will spark a wealth of discussion amongst our 2021 students.
Screen and Film School Manchester’s Film Club is open to any students who have confirmed their places to study with us next year, and we can’t wait to welcome more members over the next few months.
