12 Days of Christmas: Week 3 Unwrapped

22 December, 2020

Welcome back to Screen and Film School Brighton’s 12 Days of Christmas: Week 3 Unwrapped!

On each of the week days leading up to Christmas we’ve been releasing our recorded Masterclasses, Tech Talks, and Tales From The Front Line sessions on our student platform Screen and Film School Connect.

As the weather gets colder and the nights grow even longer, this is the perfect opportunity for our students to get cosy and catch up with any sessions they might’ve missed over the semester, or just re-live the fantastic and thought-provoking conversations we’ve had with our guests, including Elena Andreicheva, Charlotte Bruus Christensen, Gareth Evans and, of course, Russell T. Davies!

But don’t worry- if you aren’t able to access our exclusive student platform we aren’t forgetting about you! Each week we’ve been releasing a series of clips from these sessions right here. Grab a cup of cocoa, put your feet up and relax as you catch up our final highlights.

Not caught up with last week’s highlights? They’re right here!

Day 11

On the eleventh day of Christmas, SFS Brighton gave to me……
Black Narcissus’ director,
Gareth Evans’ pre-vis
Joe Geary chatting,
Vicky Bennetts’ catch up,
Oscar-winning Elena,
Malcolm 1st AD-ing,
Festival top tips,
Giri/Haji’s Joe,
Directing with Andrea,
Warwick’s Grip Tech Talk,
and a Tale with Frank of LEO Learning!

We’re SO excited to watch Black Narcissus when it’s released on BBC One later on this month – 29th December! We were lucky enough to have a chat last month with cinematographer/director, Charlotte Bruus Christensen!

Did you know? This is an adaptation of the 1939 novel by Rumer Godden, and it isn’t the first time that Black Narcissus has graced our screens either – a film of it was made in 1947 by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Another fun fact – Charlotte’s Black Narcissus was produced by Andrew Macdonald, who is the GRANDSON of Pressburger!

Day 12

On the twelfth day of Christmas, SFS Brighton gave to me……
Michele’s inspiring Q&A,
Black Narcissus’ director,
Gareth Evans’ pre-vis,
Joe Geary chatting,
Vicky Bennetts’ catch up,
Oscar-winning Elena,
Malcolm 1st AD-ing,
Festival top tips,
Giri/Haji’s Joe,
Directing with Andrea,
Warwick’s Grip Tech Talk,
and a Tale with Frank of LEO Learning!

We’ve had a lot of requests for this release… our very own patron, documentary producer, and director, Michele D’Acosta! Michele was interviewed by one of own Alumna, René Lorraine, for what was a truly unique Masterclass between mentor and mentee. We ended this session with a meeting of the Film in Colour Society and the discussion we had in this meeting has shaped the line up of guests that we’ve got coming up in 2021, too.

Day 12.5

On the twelfth (and a half!) day of Christmas, SFS Brighton gave to me……
Russell’s Student Takeover,
Michele’s inspiring Q&A,
Black Narcissus’ director,
Gareth Evans’ pre-vis
Joe Geary chatting,
Vicky Bennetts’ catch up,
Oscar-winning Elena,
Malcolm 1st AD-ing,
Festival top tips,
Giri/Haji’s Joe,
Directing with Andrea,
Warwick’s Grip Tech Talk,
and a Tale with Frank of LEO Learning!

SURPRISE! Did you think we could forget the wonderful afternoon we spent with Russell T. Davies? This student takeover Masterclass was jam-packed with questions, screenwriting tips, inspirational answers and – of course – lots of Doctor Who talk. This was our most attended Masterclass ever, with a whopping 120 SFS Brighton students, Alumni staff attending from their bubbles all over the world – and wasn’t Russell just fantastic?

From all of us here at Screen and Film School Brighton, we wish you all a lovely, cosy festive season and a very happy New Year!

We can’t wait to see you all in 2021; with Allan Scott, Reece Shearsmith, Rose Glass and more, it’s going to be an incredible year!
