Screen and Film School Brighton awarded prestigious ScreenSkills accreditation

21 July, 2020

Screen and Film School Brighton now carries the ScreenSkills Select quality-mark on the BA (Hons) Filmmaking undergraduate degree.

The ScreenSkills Select is awarded to practice-based courses which best prepare students for a career in the film, television, and screen industries. The accreditation, which is difficult to attain, is only awarded to degree programmes which are best suited to preparing students for a career in the creative industries and which keep up with the rapid pace of creative change.

The accreditation means that SFS Brighton students learn professional skills on courses approved and supported by ScreenSkills, the industry-led skills body for the UK’s screen-based industries.

ScreenSkills noted that SFS Brighton to ‘a very large extent’ demonstrated close links with the screen industries and that the design and delivery of the course address sector skills gaps. The prestigious skills body also highlighted that SFS Brighton has been excellent at managing students’ needs during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Itziar Leighton, Screen and Film School Brighton Principal said: “We are extremely proud of our BA Hons Filmmaking course, and have worked hard to create a course that is practical, industry-focused and develop the important professional skills we know our industry partners are asking for. Having this formally recognised by ScreenSkills is an exciting and valued endorsement of all our hard work. We are particularly looking forward to working with ScreenSkills in ensuring our students continue to graduate as skilled professionals ready to make their mark in the industry.”

Kate Mapes, Screen and Film School Brighton Head of Education said: “We are so excited to have been awarded our ScreenSkills accreditation. Being aligned with this industry-led skills body for the screen industries means that we can support our students even more to develop the technical, creative and production skills that are needed to succeed and become a part of the UK’s global growing screen industries.”

Screen and Film School Brighton’s BA (Hons) Filmmaking is now listed in the ScreenSkills Select course directory.
