Brighton filmmaking graduate wins award for Best New Editor

19 October, 2022

A graduate from Screen and Film School Brighton received a career boosting accolade recently when she won ‘Best New Editor’ at the 2022 Shark Awards.

Running for nearly 60 years and hosted on the idyllic seaside town of Kinsale on the South coast of Ireland, the annual Shark Awards is a festival celebrating creative thinkers from across the globe within the fields of advertising, design, digital media, music video and short film.

At this year’s ceremony, twenty-four-year-old Screen and Film School graduate Chloe Kelly received the highly respected award of ‘Best New Editor’ for her work on a short, branded content production for Hertility – a company seeking to revolutionise reproductive healthcare for women.

Speaking to the film school about her recent win, Chloe said:

“I’m still in shock – it’s an overwhelming honour! I was so happy to have been shortlisted alone, so to win was more than I could have imagined. I cried with happiness when relaying the news to my family. It’s the people who have always supported and believed in me, as well as the wonderful creative minds on this project, that have made winning this award possible.”

The powerful film, which features a choreographed dance performance set to music along with an inspiring narrative, was produced by Brighton-based creative production studio and official film school industry partner, ‘Be The Fox’.

Kelly, who completed a Filmmaking Degree at Screen and Film School Brighton in 2019, started out with ‘Be The Fox’ as a production assistant intern. After showing her determination and focus, she was offered a permanent role as an edit assistant before eventually becoming the studio’s main in-house Editor.

Chloe’s next steps took her to London, where she worked as a lead editor on both national and international TVC campaigns with Broadcast production company, Transmission Productions.

Now, having worked for an impressive array of clients such as University of Sussex, Thames Water, EDF Energy, ERS Car Insurance, Huggies and Cazoo, Kelly operates on a completely freelance basis.

Screen and Film School Brighton are immensely proud to see one of their recent graduates gaining such esteemed recognition for their talented work and wish Chloe continued success for her future career.
